Wood

Wood is a renewable building material and is therefore very environmentally friendly and sustainable.
However, wood is also being used more and more in the construction industry for other reasons. For one thing, the construction time for a timber building is significantly shorter than for a traditional masonry structure. This is because many components can be prefabricated in the timber builder’s workshop; depending on the construction method, even the wiring and plumbing may already be installed in the walls. The individual components are then delivered to the construction site and assembled there in just a few days. Unlike concrete, the wooden components do not need to dry first, so the shell of the building is often completed in a very short time, which naturally also saves costs.

Wood not only looks beautiful, but also creates a pleasant and warm atmosphere indoors and has a positive effect on the indoor climate. For example, wood has the ability to absorb, store, and release moisture. This prevents the air from becoming too dry in the summer and helps prevent mold growth in the fall and winter. In addition to moisture, wood also stores heat, which is released again when temperatures drop. As a result, the indoor climate in wooden buildings is generally more comfortable than in solid concrete structures.

However, wood is only a sustainable building material if trees that are felled and processed for construction are replaced by new ones. We calculate the amount of wood we use for our projects and immediately replant the equivalent amount.
There are a number of organizations dedicated to reforestation. We have chosen to partner with One Tree Planted, a global NGO that has planted over 10 million trees since its founding in 2014 (as of Dec. 2020). Here you will find documents and videos about interesting timber construction projects in Switzerland, about One Tree Planted, as well as articles on the topics of forests and reforestation.
